There are many different types of cosmetic dental procedures for rejuvenating your smile. Whether you need to repair a chipped tooth or just want a whiter smile, there is a cosmetic procedure that can help. A dentist can tell you about several common cosmetic procedures to rejuvenate your smile and help you select the right ones for you. At River Forest Dental Studio, Dr. Gina Piccioni and Dr. John Hartmann are your dentists for cosmetic dentistry in River Forest, IL.

Types of Cosmetic Dental Procedures

There are several types of cosmetic dental procedures for rejuvenating your smile. Common cosmetic procedures to rejuvenate your smile include:

  • Veneers
  • Bonding
  • Contouring
  • Teeth whitening

Veneers are thin covers applied to the front of problem teeth to give them a completely new look. Veneers can be used to conceal a variety of imperfections, such as cracks, chips, and discolorations. Veneers can also transform the shape of teeth that are misshaped. Once in place, veneers look like your natural teeth.

Bonding is a cosmetic procedure that can serve several purposes. Bonding can close gaps between teeth, repair teeth that are chipped or cracked, or correct the color of discolored teeth. The procedure for bonding involves applying a resin material to the problem area on a tooth. As the material dries, it bonds with the tooth and the problem is corrected. Once dry, the bonded material will blend in with the tooth and will be unnoticeable.

Contouring is a cosmetic dental procedure for reshaping teeth. Contouring can be used to improve the appearance of teeth that are crooked, chipped, cracked, or overlap with one another. The procedure for contouring problem teeth involves gradually removing small portions of enamel from the teeth until they have been properly reshaped.

Professional teeth whitening is a cosmetic dental treatment for brightening the teeth and removing stains from them. Some dental practices offer both in-office and take-home teeth whitening options. Both options deliver superior results to over-the-counter whitening products as they contain a professional strength bleaching agent. Professional teeth whitening can whiten the teeth by several shades with long-lasting results.

There are many cosmetic procedures to rejuvenate your smile. A dentist can help you select the right procedures to achieve the smile you desire. At the first-ever Players Weekend in August 2017, Major League Baseball players wore jerseys with their nicknames on the back. One player — Cleveland Indians shortstop, Francisco Lindor — picked the perfect moniker to express his cheerful, fun-loving nature: “Mr. Smile.” And Lindor gave fans plenty to smile about when he belted a 2-run homer into the stands while wearing his new jersey!

Lindor has explained that he believes smiling is an important part of connecting with fans and teammates alike: “I’ve never been a fan of the guy that makes a great play and then acts like he’s done it 10,000 times — smile, man! We’ve got to enjoy the game.”

We think Lindor is right: Smiling is a great way to generate good will. And it feels great too… as long as you have a smile that’s healthy, and that looks as good as you want it to. But what if you don’t? Here are some things we can do at the dental office to help you enjoy smiling again:

Routine Professional Cleanings & Exams. This is a great place to start on the road toward a healthy, beautiful smile. Even if you are conscientious about brushing and flossing at home, you won’t be able to remove all of the disease-causing dental plaque that can hide beneath the gum line, especially if it has hardened into tartar, but we can do it easily in the office. Then, after a thorough dental exam, we can identify any problems that may be affecting your ability to smile freely, such as tooth decay, gum disease, or cosmetic dental issues.

Cosmetic Dental Treatments. If your oral health is good but your smile is not as bright as you’d like it to be, we can discuss a number of cosmetic dental treatments that can help. These range from conservative procedures such as professional teeth whitening and bonding to more dramatic procedures like porcelain veneers or crowns.

Tooth Replacement. Many people hide their smiles because they are embarrassed by a gap from a missing tooth. That’s a shame, because there are several excellent tooth-replacement options in a variety of price ranges. These include partial and full dentures, bridgework, and dental implants. So don’t let a missing tooth stop you from being Mr. (or Ms.) Smile!

Would you like to improve your smile but aren't sure which cosmetic dentistry procedure will help you achieve your goals? Our River cosmetic dentistryForest, IL, dentists, Dr. Gina Piccioni and Dr. John Hartmann of River Forest Dental Studio, discuss several procedures that can transform your smile.

Cosmetic bonding

Bonding allows your dentist to change the shape or length of your teeth or hide imperfections by applying flexible composite resin, which is then hardened with a curing light. In addition to lengthening teeth, cosmetic bonding can also make crooked or twisted teeth look straight, hide discolorations, close gaps, and conceal chips, cracks, and other imperfections.

Teeth whitening

A dull smile can detract from your appearance and also make you look older. Fortunately, it only takes about an hour to whiten your smile with professional whitening treatment. Whitening generally lightens teeth by about three to eight shades. Results usually last several years and can be easily maintained with at-home whitening kits offered by our River Forest office.

Veneers provide an alternative to teeth whitening treatment. Because they're available in many shades of white, you can choose just how white you want your smile to be. The tooth-shaped porcelain shells are applied to the fronts of your teeth. Veneers are also used to hide small flaws, such as chips and cracks, and can change the shape and length of teeth and fill gaps. The restorations are highly resistant to stains and can be maintained simply by brushing and flossing your teeth.

Tooth-colored fillings

There's no hiding your dental history when you have silver amalgam fillings. Your dental work is on view every time you open your mouth. Tooth-colored fillings blend in with your teeth and actually help strengthen them. The fillings are made of composite resin tinted to match the color of your teeth.

Dental implants

Missing teeth can be permanently restored with dental implants. Implants may not look like your natural roots but they accomplish the same function. The titanium posts are implanted in your jawbone, where they begin to bond to the bone. Once they're firmly attached to the bone, they're topped with a crown, an artificial tooth that you'll use to bite and chew foods. Dental implants feel very much like real teeth, help keep your jawbone strong, and will probably never need to be replaced if you practice good oral hygiene.

Cosmetic dentistry procedures can help you look your best. Call our River Forest, IL, dentists, Dr. Piccioni and Dr. Hartmann of River Forest Dental Studio, at (708) 366-6760 to schedule an appointment to discuss your treatment options.

Say goodbye to dental imperfections and hello to a beautiful smile with veneers.veneers

Are you dealing with discolorations in your teeth that don’t respond to teeth whitening treatment? Do you hate that your teeth look tiny and worn down due to years of teeth grinding? If you said “yes” to these questions, or if you are dealing with other cosmetic issues with your smile, then our River Forest, IL, cosmetic dentists Dr. Gina Piccioni and Dr. John Hartmann are here to tell you how dental veneers can help.

If you lack confidence in your smile because it’s misshapen, discolored, or misaligned then chances are good that you want to turn to cosmetic dentistry to enhance your appearance and boost your self-confidence. Our River Forest, IL, dentist can provide you with personalized cosmetic dentistry to meet your needs and help you solve the aesthetics problems you are having.

Whether you just wish your smile were a little straighter or years of teeth grinding has left you with small, uneven teeth, let our dental team in River Forest, IL, restore your appearance with veneers. Each veneer is uniquely crafted to cover the entire front surface of a tooth. These custom restorations are even matched to the shade of your smile so you always get restorations that are natural and realistic.

Before veneers can be placed we will need to prepare your teeth first. To make room for your veneers we will remove a minimal amount of enamel from the front of your teeth so that your final results look natural and not bulky.

Don’t worry, though; tooth preparation isn’t painful and can often be performed without needing anesthesia if you don’t experience tooth sensitivity. We will also take molds of your mouth to provide an outside lab with the exact measurements and replicas of your teeth and gums so they can create veneers that are perfectly fitted to your smile.

Once your veneers have been made and sent to us, you will come back in so that we can check the look and fit before bonding them to the front of your teeth with resin and a dental laser. Once the veneers have been bonded they can last up to twenty years or more with proper care.

Are you interested in getting dental veneers in River Forest, IL? If so, then it’s time you scheduled a free dental implant consultation to find out if you are the ideal candidate for this treatment. Call the experts at River Forest Dental Studio today.

So you want a better-looking smile through cosmetic dentistry. Consider tooth contouring and reshaping. This procedure can improve yourcosmetic dentistry appearance by creating more balance or harmony in the appearance of your smile. Dr. Gina Piccioni and Dr. John Hartmann at River Forest Dental Studio in River Forest, IL, offer a complete range of dental services.

What is tooth contouring?

Tooth recontouring and reshaping involves removing small amounts of tooth enamel in order to change the tooth's shape, surface, or length. It may be used to correct crooked or excessively long teeth, small chips, or to alter the shape, length, or position of teeth. Tooth contouring and reshaping is best for patients who need small adjustments or repairs to improve the feel and appearance of their teeth.

How is the procedure done?

Before the procedure begins, your dentist will take X-rays of your teeth. Secondly, your dentist will mark your teeth with a pen to highlight the areas that need sculpting. Next, your dentist will use a sanding disc or a fine diamond bur to eliminate imperfections on the surfaces of your teeth. Finally, your teeth will be smoothed and polished.

Am I a candidate for the procedure?

First, you must be looking for improvements that can be accomplished by removing a tiny bit of your tooth’s enamel. Your River Forest dentist will take dental x-rays to make sure your tooth enamel – or outermost tooth layer – is healthy and thick enough for the treatment. Your dentist will use the X-rays to determine your candidacy.

What are the benefits of the procedure?

Tooth recontouring and reshaping is an effective way to correct minor imperfections on your teeth. Tooth contouring and reshaping provides instant results. The procedure takes less than 30 minutes, so you will only need one dental visit to achieve the smile you have always wanted.

Is the procedure painful?

Tooth contouring and reshaping is a quick, painless dental procedure that can produce a noticeably better look. Because only surface enamel is removed in tooth contouring and reshaping, there is generally no discomfort during the procedure.

If dental imperfections are taking a toll on your appearance, tooth contouring and reshaping could be just the treatment you need to reveal your very best smile. Call River Forest Dental Studio at 708-366-6760 now to schedule an appointment for tooth contouring and reshaping in River Forest, IL. It's never too late for a beautiful smile.
