Dealing with only minor defects in your smile? Dental bonding could help!
While it’s certainly most important to have a healthy smile, our River Forest, IL, dentists, Dr. Gina Piccioni and Dr. John Hartmann, understand how frustrating it can feel if you have a healthy smile that just doesn’t look like it is. If you are dealing with discolorations, small gaps between teeth, minor chips, or worn and uneven teeth one simple procedure may be all you need to you the beautiful smile you crave.
What is dental bonding?
Never heard of dental bonding before? Don’t worry; a lot of people haven’t. During this simple procedure the same tooth-colored material used to fill a tooth after a cavity is the same resin used. This cosmetic treatment is 100 percent non-invasive, which can be a relief for those who want to improve their smiles but are apprehensive about getting dental procedures.
Instead, the bonding resin is applied and shaped over discolorations, chips and other minimal problem areas to improve the color and shape of one or more teeth. Once the bonding is properly shaped a dental laser will be directed over the tooth to harden the resin into place.
How long does dental bonding last?
Most dental restorations aren’t designed to last the rest of your life, unfortunately. Of course, if you continue to maintain good oral hygiene then this composite resin could last up to eight years or more before needing to be replaced. The longevity of your bonded tooth will really depend on the extent of the cosmetic issues we are treating and which tooth is getting treated.
Fortunately, touch-ups are easy and painless and can be performed during your next routine visit. By coming in every six months our River Forest general dentists can check to make sure the restoration is still strong and durable or if it needs to be replaced.
