Here are some things you can expect when you visit your River Forest dentist.
If you’re currently asking yourself whether your child should start taking regular trips to the dentist, then most likely it’s the perfect time! The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that children see their dentist by their first birthday or when the first tooth erupts. If your child has just celebrated his first birthday it’s time to get him an appointment to see Drs. Gina Piccioni and Dr. John Harmann in River Forest.
Your child may already be asking questions about his upcoming visit. If this is the case, let him know what to expect so there are no surprises.
What will happen during my child’s first dental visit?
The first visit is really about establishing rapport. After all, we want your child comfortable coming to our office. Plus, the sooner you can get your child in for regular cleanings and exams the more relaxed and commonplace visiting the dentist will become. We will sit down and talk with both you and your child and get to know more about your child’s medical history.
What will we discuss during my child’s dental visit?
We will talk about how to care for your child’s mouth and erupting teeth. We will also talk about ways you can prevent cavities, how to use fluoride to keep teeth healthy, healthy dental development and even eating habits. Also, if you have any questions now is the best time to address them.
Will there be a dental exam?
We will take a quick look at your child’s mouth; however, we often do this while the child is sitting in the parent’s lap so they feel comfortable. We will also make sure your child isn’t dealing with any cavities or signs of decay. If we notice any stains we may also do a light cleaning.
Again, if you have any questions about your child’s oral health, this first visit is the best time to address them. We want your child to have a healthy smile, and parents are a major component to promoting good oral health.
Schedule your child’s first appointment at River Forest Dental Studio. We can’t wait to get to know your little one!
